Our Amazing

Gorsley Community Shop & Post Office

Latest Newsletter

To keep everyone informed on the latest situation with regards to the shop and how it has performed during and since the Covid lockdowns, we have prepared a newsletter.  If you have any questions or suggestions on this please do contact us.

2023 Opening

The Shop and Post Office will continue to open our usual hours from January 2023. We will be observing any  Government Safety Guidelines to keep our team and customers safe.

COVID-19 Lockdown and beyond...

With being classed as an essential business, we pleased to confirm that the shop will remain OPEN during any future Lockdown.  We will endeavour to keep our stocks at increased levels to ensure anyone not wanting to visit the larger supermarkets can get what they need from their local shop.
In response to the ongoing COVID-19, we feel it is important that Gorsley Community Shop continues to serve and support the local community in every way possible.
For this reason, Gorsley Community Shop has a 4-point strategy:

 -  We are committed to keep the Shop and Post Office open for as long as we can do, with increased stock levels

-  All customers (and shop workers)  may wear a face covering whilst in the shop

 -  We may revert restricting the number of customers in the shop if needed e.g. one customer using the shop till and one other using the Post Office till.

 -  Anyone struggling to get to the shop themselves, due to self-isolation, please do contact the shop by phone or email and we can see what we can do to help you.

Post Office Lunch Break (Closed 1.00-1.30pm)

Our Post Office closes for a 30min lunch break from 1.00-1.30pm, Monday - Friday.  With the Covid-19 restrictions of one customer in the shop at a time, there are very little quiet times in the day.  This break ensures our Post Office workers are able to take the break they require.
This an official closure of the Post Office till, so we are unable to carry out Post Office transactions between these times.
Please note the rest of the shop will remain open as usual.

Princes Countryside Fund Grant...

We were delighted to announce that Gorsley Community Shop was successful in receiving a grant from The Princes Countryside Fund to specifically support the staffing costs over the first two years.  The fund was set up by HRH The Prince of Wales in 2010 with the aim to enhance the quality of rural life.

By The Community ...

The intention right from the outset was the new shop would be run by the community, for the community, to serve the community.  With this being the case, it could not have been more appropriate than for the community to come together to celebrate the shop opening on Saturday 1st September 2018, with the ribbon being cut by Jesse Norman MP.

The Vision...

In collaboration with Gorsley Baptist Church  the Community Shop and Post Office is one part of a larger vision to create a  hub to meet the many needs of a rural community; including a children's play park, coffee house, orchard and recreation area.

When you visit you will see just how this has come to be a reality! 🥳 You will not be disappointed. 🌟
The Vision

What The Shop Offers...

The shop is unable to sell everything for everyone.  To ascertain what the community was really wanting, a survey was completed by those who would potentially use the shop.  Results from which have given clear guidance on what should be initially on offer.

We constantly review this and seek local feedback and suggestions e.g. we often sell locally grown plants at a great price.

Is there something we do not  stock and you would like us to consider it,  just pop in and ask - or see the contact details at the bottom of this page. 👍

About Us

In August 2017, the former Gorsley Village Shop and Post Office closed with the retirement of Gordon and Diane Martin after running the shop for the past 19 years.  With Gorsley without a shop, the community has re-established a shop and Post Office in the village as a community run enterprise.  It is believed that not only will the shop and Post Office be used by the locality but it will also promote community spirit and relations. This has proved to be the case and we kept being told we were a lifeline during the Covid-19 Lockdowns. It was a privilege to be able to help supply our local people's needs and help keep them safe. 🌈😄
